THE JULIBRISSIN ALBIZIA, “POMPADOUR” ®

A shady tree suited to mild climates, particularly decorative during its long summer flowering period.

As its name indicates, this bright red version of Constantinople Mimosa, selected by Jean Coulié in the famous Cité du Cheval et la Marquise de Pompadour, located on the Western border of the Massif Central at an altitude of 400 m, has proved its worth through its rusticity and resistance to temperatures of –20 to –25 degrees. The parent plant, which dates from 1957, withstood the rigours of the severe winters of 1985 and 1987.

Pompadour is a vigorous variety that develops well, with spreading top, smooth trunk, light green leaves and superabundant rich red, fragrant flowering from July to September. The combination of foliage and flowers is delightfully light and elegant.

The tree, one of the last to bud in spring, is resistant to cold in the adult stage and also resists limestone. It does not like damp soil, preferring well-filtered and healthy soil, but can cope with small amounts of clay. It prefers warm, sunny locations, and is well adapted to all the mild Atlantic and Mediterranean climatic zones.
