| The history of Pépinières COULIÉ |
The nursery, created in 1972 by Jean Coulié, at Chasteaux near Brive La Gaillarde, specialises in producing grafted walnut trees and ornamental plants in containers for the wholesale and retail markets.
In 1978, the company entered a new area of production, the grafted chestnut tree. In 1982 it was awarded the first contracts for proliferation of INRA-approved wither-resistant hybrid chestnut trees.

 |
| In the following years, from 1984-86, it worked on fine-tuning the process of propagating the ink-resistant hybrid chestnut trees according to varieties and stock and, working together with the INRA and Agri-Obtentions, was involved in the major advances in in vitro and in vivo chestnut cultivation. |
It is also jointly involved in work to proliferate and select ornamental varieties such as albizia, lagerstroemeria and mulberry plane.
Through the 1990s, it gradually concentrated its activities on these specific areas:
walnut trees;
chestnut trees;
albizias;
lagerstroemerias;
mulberry planes.
|
 |
| In 1992, it perfected a green-grafting method for chestnut trees, using a technique similar to the herbaceous grafting process applied in vines. It also became involved in specialist proliferation of clones of various types of oak destined for mycorhisation by edible fungi (truffle plants). |
In order to allow top-quality plants to be made available on the market quickly, it has perfected the mycorhisation of young plants with antagonistic phytophtora fungi, which favour:
greater resistance;
greater yield;
greater growth.
Since 1995, the company has been as SARL with capital of €109,763, contributed by a number of different partners. |
